The pixel has been with us for a long time. It came from two abbreviations – picture and element, it’s the smallest controllable element of an image. Did you know a pixel is roughly 1/96 inch or 0.26mm square.
The word was first published in 1965 when Frederic C Billingsley was describing video images taken from the space probes that had been to the Moon and Mars. See our 'fore fathers' blog for more information.
Today, pixels are part of so many aspects of everyday life, they are literally everywhere. We felt it was time to share some of this in a shirt.
We were looking for something people would recognize, our solution is a design based on QR codes – widely used and a recognized place to see pixels. The pattern is subtle, speaking volumes to those in the know. It is contrasted with mid-grey accents featuring Python code, the result is chic and geek.
